The type species (lectotype) of the genus Chlorella is Chlorella vulgaris Beijerinck.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Aliichlorella pulchelloides (C.Bock, Krienitz & Pröschold) Krivina, Portnov & Temraleeva.

Type Information
Type locality: Lake Feldberger Haussee (53°20'27.35" N; 13°26'10.89" E) [Baltic Lake District in the federal state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Germany, fide Dr. Lothar Täuscher]; (Bock, Krienitz & Pröschold: 301) Notes: "Holotype: Material of the authentic strain CCAP 211/118 is cryopreserved at the Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa, Oban, Scotland. Isotype: An airdried as well as a formaldehyde fixed sample of strain CCAP 211/118 was deposited at the Botanical Museum at Berlin-Dahlem under the designation B40 0040664. Authentic strain: CCAP 211/118 Iconotype: Figure 2"
