The type species (lectotype) of the genus Pseudolithophyllum is Pseudolithophyllum fuegianum (Heydrich) M.L.Mendoza & Cabioch.
Lithophyllum whidbeyense Foslie
Type locality: Whidbey Island, Washington, U.S.A, (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 59). Lectotype: Setchell & N.L.Gardner Algae of Puget Sound, number 655; 1901; none given. TRH A6-315 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 59). Notes: Lectotype fide L.R. Mason, 1953: 341; Collector : N.L. Gardener 655 (INA). Lectotype: TRH, Gardner 655 (UC, 739464) on Acmaea mitra shell (lectotype chosen by Mason 1953); shallow subtidal (Steneck & Paine, 1986).
DNA sequencing of the lectotype specimen of Pseudolithphyllum whidbeyense revealed that this name had been misapplied and instead belongs to an undescribed coralline species in the Hapalidiales (Hind et el., 2018). - (21 Feb 2019) - Wendy Guiry
