The type species (holotype) of the genus Melobesia is Melobesia membranacea (Esper) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lithophyllum pustulatum (J.V.Lamouroux) Foslie.
Type locality: Mediterranean Sea; (Chamberlain 1991: 61) Holotype: On “Rytiphlaea”.; CN; (Chamberlain 1991: 61) Notes: Rytiphlaea fide Chamberlain (1986: 201). Lectotype: CN; France; no further details given in protologue (Wilks & Woelkerling 1991: 529).
