Centroceras eatonianum Farlow
Neotype locality: Seal Rock near Newport, Oregon, USA (Cho, Choi, Hansen & Boo 2000: 324). Neotype: fig 44: T.O. Cho & G. Hansen; 10 July 1998; Herbarium of Department of Botany, Chungnam National University, Daejon, Korea C00044 (Cho, Choi, Hansen & Boo 2000: 324). Notes: A type specimen was not designated by Farlow (1875). Doty (1947) lectotypified C. eatonium with the collection made by Mr. E. Hall in Oregon (probably Clatsop County) in 1871. However, this material is missing (Cho et al. 2000: 324).
Occurs in the mid- to upper intertidal zone, frequently in exposed habitats subjected to wave action; often forms small mounds, with sand bound between its filaments; occasionally epiphytic on coralline algae and other seaweeds (Cho et al. 2000). - (30 Sep 2011) - Wendy Guiry
