Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Grateloupia is Grateloupia filicina (J.V.Lamouroux) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Glaphyrosiphon intestinalis (Harvey) Leister & W.A.Nelson.

Type Information
Type locality: Preservation Harbour, southern New Zealand; (Womersley & Lewis 1994: 204) Lectotype (tetrasporangial plant): David Lyall; January 1851; "on rocks"; BM; barcode BM000530298 (Hommersand & al. 2010: 559) Notes: Hommersand et al. (2010: 559) note that the above tetrasporangial plant was designated as the type in Chapman & Parkinson 1974: 246. The sheet was originally labeled Nemastoma (Araeotes) intestinalisin agreement with Harvey's published name. Isolectotype: a cystocarpic plant at TCD (barcode TCD0011001). Holotype: a single fragment of a course broad tetrasporangial plant without a base at BM (barcode BM000530301) labeled "Jackson Bay. NZ. March 1851" and carrying the name Nemastoma attenuata H & H.
