The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Hormosira banksii (Turner) Decaisne

Adjective (Latin), moniliform, cylindrical but contracted at regular intervals like a string of beads (Stearn 1973).
