Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Acrochaetium is Acrochaetium secundatum (Lyngbye) Nägeli.

This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Colaconema caespitosum (J.Agardh) Jackelman, Stegenga & J.J.Bolton

Type locality: King George Solund, Western Australia (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 95).

Adjective (Latin), literally, grape-like fruit (Stearn 1973).
