Taxonomic note
Using SSU sequence comparisons, as well as reproductive evidence, Saunders et al. (2006) found that South African plants known as Halichrysis coalescens (Norris 1991) did not align with either Halichrysis or Drouetia but rather resolved as a novel lineage within the Rhodymeniaceae. The South African plants identified as H. coalescens in Norris (1991) were based on misidentified specimens from Australia that are presently known as Asteromenia pseudocoalescens (Saunders et al. 2006). - (13 June 2012) - Craig Schneider
