Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Dilsea carnosa (Schmidel) Kuntze

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), fleshy, succulent, soft but firm (Stearn 1973).

Nomenclatural notes
