Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), chalky, limy (Stearn 1973).
No synonyms are currently included in AlgaeBase.
Athanasiadis (2016: 241) lists Harvey "1846: xxiii" as the first apearance of this name. However, p. xxxii of Phycologia britannica was published after 30 July 1851. INA gives "Ner. austr." 101 as the origin of the name. Neres australis has not been definitively dated but appears "before Nov. 1849" [TL-2].
