Taxonomic notes
According to Silva et al. (1996: 853) the following names have been misapplied to this species in the Iddian Ocean by various authors; Codium elongatum, Codium tomentosum and Codium lindenbergii. Please consult original reference for full details. ESU (evolutionary significant unit), Codium duthieae three contained specimens (from Arabian Sea) conforming to C. fastigiatum, C. duthieae and C. decortatum (Verbruggen et al. 2007: 244).

Type locality: Strandfontein, False Bay, Cape Province, South Africa (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 853). Holotype: G.F. Papenfuss No. 24; 13 November 1935; Cast ashore. UC 920260 (Silva & Womersley 1956: 276).
