The type species (lectotype) of the genus Acrochaetium is Acrochaetium secundatum (Lyngbye) Nägeli.

Taxonomic note
Woelkerling (1973: 588) suggested that this species is probably conspecific with Colaconema minimum (Collins) Woelkerling. South & Tittley (1986) also attempted to make the combination Audouinella americana. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
