Taxonomic notes
Acrochaetium codii may be part of a species complex that includes A. cespitosum, A. botryocarpum, and A rhizoideum (Guiry, pers. comm.).
Garbary (1987: 43) records this species as being a synonym of Audouinella codii.
John et al. (2004) cite Colaconema caespitosum (J. Agardh) Jackelm. et al. as a synonym of this species.
Nomenclatural notes
John et al. (2004) cite the authority for this species as (P. Crouan & H. Crouan) Garbary.
G. Furnari writes (e-mail, 7 April 2010): "Acrochaetium codii was described by Hamel (1927: 30) who, however, attributed it to (P. et H. Crouan) Bornet. But, Bornet never published that combination and the intended basionym 'Callithamnion codii P. et H. Crouan (1860: 368)' is a nomen nudum. Consequently, the species should be attributed to only Hamel. In Cecere E., Petrocelli A., Alongi G., Saracino O.D., Cormaci M. & G. Furnari (2000), Marine benthic flora of the Gargano promontory (Adriatic Sea, southern Italy). Flora Mediterranea, 10: 325-347, I proposed at page 335 the combination Audouinella codii (Hamel) G. Furnari since that previously proposed by Garbary was invalid because it was based on the nomen nudum Callithamnion codii P. et H. Crouan." - (7 Apr 2010) - M.D. Guiry
