The type species (holotype) of the genus Iridaea is Iridaea cordata (Turner) Bory.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Mazzaella parvula (Kjellman) P.W.Gabrielson, S.C.Lindstrom, Hughey & Hommersand.
